When your product is a platform, it’s more than likely being developed and released in iterative stages. Designing on an iterative developmental schedule can be an exciting challenge.

Over the course of my tenure at Benefitfocus I’ve led several UX initiatives that targeted specific aspects of this consumer-facing enrollment platform. These large projects improved the overall experience for all its users.

In the user profile section, we took a 25+ page experience and edited it down to an easy-to-use one-page form. Authentication errors and support calls were greatly reduced with improvements to the login portion of the product. Previously, a life event (birth, marriage, etc.) edit was unintuitive and caused confusion. We updated this scenario and significantly improved the usability. It is possible to improve a product’s overall experience one scenario/release at a time.
